About This Site

Welcome to the Canvas at Penn status page. The purpose of this page is to provide real-time information about unexpected service issues, outages, and scheduled maintenance for supported educational technologies from the Courseware Team at Penn Libraries.

Our goal is to update this page as soon as we are alerted to an issue. Please keep in mind that updates may be delayed due to information provided by third-party vendors and reports made outside of regular business hours. If you experience an issue that has not yet been reported, please contact canvas@pobox.upenn.edu.

Turnitin & Gradescope Maintenance- 10/25
Completed - The scheduled maintenance has been completed.

Scheduled - On Saturday October 25 from 11am-5pm Eastern:

Turnitin will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance by the vendor.
- Only assignments using the Turnitin originality checking settings ("Plagiarism Review") will be affected.
- To avoid issues, instructors are encouraged to set due dates for Turnitin assignments outside of the scheduled maintenance window.
- Students are encouraged to submit Turnitin assignments in advance of affected due dates.

Some Gradescope features (Exporting Submissions & Code Similarity Reports) will be unavailable. All other components of Gradescope will be operational.

Canvas and all other integrated tools will be available and unaffected by this maintenance.

Update - As of 5PM ET, Canvas is still inaccessible for all US customers. We will continue to monitor this evening and share any updates as we receive them.

Update - Gradescope, iThenticate, Turnitin, and PollEverywhere are now working.

Canvas is still experiencing an outage. While Canvas is inaccessible, you can access these tools directly at Gradescope.com, iThenticate.com, Turnitin.com, and Polleverywhere.com.

Identified - Several of our tools (including Canvas) are currently impacted by an ongoing Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage this morning.

You may be unable to login or encounter significant performance issues for Canvas, Gradescope, Poll Everywhere, and Turnitin until this is fixed by Amazon. You can follow the progress below for specific tools, and I'll update you once we hear that service has been restored.
